Paint the Night

Description

I have a lot of street signs in my studio. Some of them are battered and impossible to paint on and some are just so gorgeous that I don’t want to get paint on them.
And then there are the triangles. For some reason I have a collection of red warning triangle signs and I am not totally sure where they have come from. Some have been gifts from other sign enthusiasts but the others? Is it me? Am I bringing triangle signs into my studio while I am asleep in some kind of nightmare Fight Club scenario?
The first rule of sign club is: you do not talk about sign club.
One of the problems with the triangle signs, apart from their 3 sided shapes, is that the central space is white with the pictogram in black and unless you can think of a way to subvert the pictogram you still have this white shape to work in. Deciding to paint out the white area of this sign was the first step and then for months it just sat there, a blank black canvas just waiting to be filled but with what?
It took around 2 months before I realised that I could simply draw straight onto this sign and as soon as I had the thought, I knew that this BMX guy would be perfect.

Paint the Night is hand drawn with acrylic Molotow paint pens onto a thick plastic triangular street sign that measures 85 cm on each side.

This piece is signed on the back and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
